The news that many Reds fans had feared looks to be incoming, as it seems the move for Shakhtar Donetsk’s star man Alex Teixeira is about to be ended. At least until the summer.

Ukrainian club owners seem to have a bit of a reputation for playing hardball when it come to their players and Shakhtar GM Sergei Palkin has reportedly told the press: “We are aiming to go far in Europa League and that’s why I want to keep Teixeira until the summer. Anyway, his buyout clause is €70m”.

That would seem to be that then. Unless, of course, Liverpool choose to come up with a much improved offer.

As always, this one will go one of two ways: either the club will turn their attentions elsewhere, or make alast-gasp attempt a minute before deadline day ends. Either way, there’s always a hope.

Elsewhere, the Reds are being strongly linked with a move for former Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez.

The current Leverkusen man has had a fantastic season up to now, scoring 19 goals and has helped his side climb as high as 5th in the Bundesliga. It’s interesting to note here too that, much like the Reds, Leverkusen have been fairly goalshy themselves this season and Hernandez has scored almost half their league goals himself.

Of course, the obvious reason many Liverpool fans are likely to be unimpressed with this news is the 27 year old’s former association with Man Utd.

But if we’re looking for a striker with a proven track record who would be relatively cheap, the Mexican is one of the best around at what he does, as his career tally of almost one goals every two games demonstrates. And scoring 42 goals for your country? Not to be sniffed at.

This story seems to originate from the Times, which makes you wonder if there may be a bit of truth in it. And should there be, it’s hard not to see there being at least a bit of logic to it.
