Player ratings: Liverpool 0-1 Man Utd

The veteran centre back was in good form but looks to be another casualty

The veteran was the only real standout at the back for Liverpool today

GK/Defence

Simon Mignolet – We were very critical of Mignolet in the week and, while he wasn’t as bad today (because he had next to nothing to do), when called upon just the once to do something a top keeper (see De Gea) should do he fluffed his lines. No, you can’t blame him for the goal but why on earth was he crouching on his line as the initial shot hit the crossbar? There’s an argument that, had he not been practically lying down at that point, he’d have saved Rooney’s shot. But who are we to argue the quality of a man reportedly being offered a new five year contract? Rating – 4.5

Nathaniel Clyne – Typically solid stuff from Clyne. Was more adventurous with his runs than midweek, and was seen pulling inside more. Had a shot himself in the first half. Rating – 6

Kolo Toure – A few games in the team and Kolo’s experience is showing. Couldn’t do much to prevent United taking the lead, but he ensured that neither Rooney or Martial had much impact on the game until the goal. Rating – 7

Mamadou Sakho – Some headed clearances and tackles do no exonerate Sakho’s dreadful recent form. Yes, he was much improved but between his ungainly style and the complete lack of faith in the goalkeeper, Liverpool’s player must be a bag of nerves when they lose possession. Must continue to build on today’s performance. Rating – 6

Alberto Moreno – Fairly anonymous today, and his crossing was awful. He seems to have improved on his defending but his attacking abilities seem to have taken a hit. Rating – 6

It’s not going to be easy to clean the mess left behind by B.G

Klopp is making absolutely no move to clean up the mess in the team this January window; no mention of buying or getting a striker on loan. Defending set pieces is shambolic and even our delivery and utilisation of set pieces is awful.
