Finally some actual transfer news. Liverpool have confirmed this afternoon that Schalke 04 defender, Joel Matip, has agreed a pre-contract agreement with the club.
Matip had been rumoured to be moving to Anfield since mid-December, with suggestions that he may even sign for a small fee in the January transfer window. But the defender has agreed to move to Liverpool on a free in the summer.
A number of outlets have broken the news but the player’s current club, Schalke, have confirmed the news via Twitter:

The Cameroon international emerged from the German club’s youth system and went straight into the first team in 2009, where he has since amassed a very impressive 240 games for the club, along with over 20 goals.
The 24 year old is a central defender by trade but is more than capable of playing in a midfield role, just ahead of the defence; something which no doubt helped Liverpool in making the decision to bring the player in.
Matip will become Jurgen Klopp’s first major signing as Liverpool manager, after bringing in Marko Grujic in January, along with Steven Caulker on loan.
