Lucas Leiva – It’s been said numerous times, but whenever a new manager has arrived at Anfield in recent years, Lucas Leiva’s future is called into question. So it’s funny to think that that was never the case when Klopp arrived. Lucas is very much the main veteran at Anfield, having played just one short of 300 games for Liverpool over nine seasons.
While he may have dropped out of favour in recent weeks, due to injury and the return of Jordan Henderson, the 29 year old has emerged as Klopp’s real captain; both leader in the dressing room and mouthpiece on the pitch. The German manager can often be seen relaying instructions to his team via the Brazil international.
Lucas may not ever be remembered as one of the clubs greatest midfielders, but it is clear that Klopp sees a clear role for Lucas at the club and this summer may well be the first in years that the fan-favourite isn’t being touted as a potential casualty of the coming exodus.
