The German had a mixed-bag of a match but was far superior to Henderson

Midfield

Emre Can – The German started when many believed he should’ve been dropped in favour of Lucas. As it was Lucas was retained at the back and Can – mostly – took the chance afforded to him. He was excellent in patches, and grew into the game, particularly in the second half. He and Henderson seemed to have more defined roles in the middle and Can made a great many impressive tackles and interceptions. Showed great character to step up and take another shootout pen. Rating – 6.5

Jordan Henderson – How Henderson stayed on the pitch is anyone’s guess but the captain was very poor throughout. His passes were hopeless and he often tried the extravagant when the simple was required. Made a number of poor decisions and it may have been of greater benefit to withdraw him instead of Firmino. His current lack of form is a real concern and Klopp should consider dropping him for a few games now. Rating – 5
