The defender struggled before limping off with what appeared a recurrence of his previous injury, whilst Mignolet made another big mistake

GK/Defence

Simon Mignolet – Rinse, repeat. Has to be one of the worst goalkeepers in the Premier League. How he’s lasted this long at Anfield is baffling. Gave Sunderland an easy way back in and, in truth, may as well have just sat on his goal-line for the second. The exodus has to begin with him. The decision to offer him a new deal is looking worse by the week. Rating – 2

Nathaniel Clyne – For the most part, Clyne had a good game. Solid at the back and supported well. He made a few good incisive passes and got some joy down the right. Rating – 6.5

Dejan Lovren – Lovren is one of few that have at least attempted to redeem themselves this season but has struggled a lot with injury. Such was the case again today, as the Croat limped off after an injury recurrence. Rating – 5

Mamadou Sakho – The only positive with Sakho, compared to Mignolet, is that at least he hasn’t been offered a new contract yet. The French man has long held a reputation as Liverpool’s best centre back. Often based on the fact that he never played. He has however, played a hell of a lot lately and it’s becoming very clear why PSG were probably laughing their way to the bank with the money LFC paid for him. Slow, cumbersome, indecisive and with the touch and pass of a League 2 player. Surely there’s more to Sakho than this? Rating – 3

Alberto Moreno – Moreno had little to worry about at the back for most of the game. Instead, he was able to rampage forward regularly and came close to scoring a couple of times. Good showing from the Spaniard, albeit against a very poor Sunderland. Rating – 6.5
