If the draw at home to Spurs highlighted anything last night, it’s that Liverpool are in dire need of some goalscoring options. As Daniel Sturridge continues his long road to full recovery and fitness, Jurgen Klopp is left with the inexperienced Divock Origi and misfiring Christian Benteke.
All things considered, it usually needs Sturridge, Coutinho or Roberto Firmino to pull something special out of their respective hats to ensure the points and a striker of real calibre would really make a difference to that.
With that in mind, it appears Liverpool are looking back to Lyon star, and previous transfer target, Alexandre Lacazette who would reportedly be available for around £22 million. And, according to the Daily Mirror, the Reds will have to battle Everton for the striker’s signature.
Lacazette has seemingly been a perma-target for most of the Premier League’s top clubs for the past few years but a move has never looked close to happening. Considering he also signed a new long-term contract last year, anybody willing to put an offer in will have to stump up the whole amount.
The France international isn’t having his best season to date but with 16 goals in all competitions, 14 in Lique 1 where he is the joint second highest scorer with Edinson Cavani.
There’s absolutely no doubting a player of Lacazette’s quality would add a great deal to the squad but whether Liverpool would have just Everton to go head-to-head with remains to be seen.
