Liverpool midfielder Joao Carlos Teixeira has confirmed he will be leaving Liverpool to join Portuguese side Porto.

The 23 year old is a huge fan of the club and he is quoted by the Liverpool Echo as saying that it was a “dream” to move to the 27 time Portuguese league champions:

“I am from the north and to wear blue and white has always been a dream for me, Now I can work at my club in my region and my country. I had other offers but do not want anything other than to wear blue and white.”

Teixeira has found it difficult to get game time at Liverpool despite performing well on loan at Championship side Brighton & Hove Albion last season where he was named young player of the year.

He was signed by the Reds from Sporting Lisbon for £830,000 in 2012 after spending 8 years with the Portuguese club.  He only managed 2 Premier League appearances during his 4 year stay in England though, and will now be departing back to his home country to try and break in to the Porto side who finished third in the Primeira Liga last season. It will be interesting to see how he develops at his new club.
