Arsenal are interested in signing Borussia Dortmund centre back Neven Subotic, according to Italian newspaper Il Messaggero (via Sport Bild).

The Serbian international has declared in a Facebook post that he wants to leave the German club this summer as he doesn’t want to sit on the bench. The 27 year old was in an out of Thomas Tuchel’s side last season and has been sidelined since April with thrombosis in the arm.

Now fully fit, Subotic is looking for a new challenge and the Gunners seem to be interested in bringing the player to the Emirates stadium. Liverpool have also been linked with Subotic because of his close connections with Reds boss Jurgen Klopp.

Klopp managed Subotic at Mainz and brought him to Dortmund when he took over as manager there. The pair won two Bundesliga titles and a German cup during their seven years at the club. The Reds are believed to be happy with their centre back options currently but with the impending departure of Martin Skrtel, and the expected doping ban for Mamadou Sakho, that could change.
