Huddersfield manager David Wagner has thanked Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp for engineering Danny Ward’s loan spell to the Championship side.

Wagner managed Dortmund’s B team under Klopp at the German club and it looks likely that more Liverpool youngsters will move to the Terriers over the next season if Wagner stays as manager. Young keeper Ward was given a new five year deal by the Merseyside club before being loaned out for the season to Wagner’s side and the German believes he can make the 23 year old into a better player. He was quoted by the Liverpool Echo as saying:

“I would like to thank Liverpool FC for the help the staff at the club have given us in allowing Danny to join us. Danny is a goalkeeper that Liverpool FC rates very highly, which is why he has signed a new long-term contract at the club. He did very well out on loan last season and I believe we can help him take the next step in his career this season so he will return to Liverpool a better goalkeeper.”

Ward spent half of last season on a successful loan spell at Aberdeen before returning to the Reds under Klopp to replace Adam Bodgan as Simon Mignolet’s understudy. Despite featuring for Wales at the Euros, Ward is not deemed to be quite good enough for first team opportunities at Anfield and with the arrival of Loris Karius from Mainz, his chances of any football were very limited if he stayed at the Reds.
