Liverpool midfielder Luis Alberto is expected to be sold before the start of the season, according to the Liverpool Echo, and the fact that he has not taken part in the friendlies against Tranmere Rovers and Fleetwood Town all but confirms his departure, the local paper reports.

Alberto signed from Sevilla for £6.8million in 2013 but never made an impression during his time at Anfield. His lack of pace for the Premier League was the main concern about the talented central midfielder and it now looks as though Jurgen Klopp does not see the player as part of the club’s first team plans, much like previous manager Brendan Rodgers.

The 23 year old spent last season on loan at Deportivo La Coruna and impressed scoring six goals and providing eight assists in 31 appearances. A return to Spain now looks certain with former club Sevilla seemingly the most interested party. After impressing in La Liga though, the Reds want to recoup what they paid three years ago and are demanding £7million for the player.
