Liverpool are willing to play the long game in their attempt to sell midfielder Luis Alberto, according to the Liverpool Echo. The Reds believe that the Spaniard’s reputation has increased since his successful loan spell at Deportivo La Coruna last season and want at least £7million for the 23 year old.

Spanish newspaper AS says that Alberto’s old club Sevilla have started negotiations with Liverpool over the possible return of the Spanish midfielder but the Echo believes Liverpool won’t allow the player to leave for less than the £6.8million they paid the Spanish side three years ago.

In addition, Alberto is not on high enough wages for the Reds to want to sell the player at a cut price deal and will offer him a position as a squad player next season if Sevilla do not match their demands. There maybe clubs other than Sevilla interested in the midfielder after his performances for Deportivo last campaign where he scored six goals and provided seven assists in 29 games so the Reds are hoping to make a profit on the player.
