Former Liverpool midfielder Jan Molby believes that Reds manager Jurgen Klopp will opt to pick Georginio Wijnaldum ahead of captain Jordan Henderson in central midfield when they face Arsenal at the Emirates stadium on Sunday.

Writing in his column for the Liverpool Echo, Molby believes Klopp will opt for a more attacking approach against Arsenal, and will place his faith in Wijnaldum rather than the more defensive minded Henderson which the Dane says will be a brave move:

“I think the manager will go for Gini Wijnaldum ahead of Jordan Henderson in midfield. It would be a big deal to leave out the captain and Henderson gives you greater defensive solidity. But Klopp wants Liverpool to be brave and he wants quality in terms of creating chances in that area.”

Doubts still linger over Wijnaldum’s suitability in a central midfield role and although Jurgen Klopp has praised the Dutchman’s quality to play in a number of positions, the fact that he played in a more advanced role at Newcastle and hasn’t made much of an impression in preseason, means the 25 year old will have to demonstrate he has what it takes to play in a deeper role at the heart of the Reds midfield.
