Liverpool striker Mario Balotelli is willing to sign for Chievo, according to the Corriere Della Sera (via football-italia.net). It was reported yesterday that the Italian was taking his time over the decision but he has now decided that a move to Verona would be of interest to him.

Chievo president Luca Campedelli has been in talks with Balotelli and his agent over the last few days but he has yet to contact the player’s club Liverpool regarding the transfer. The major stumbling block to overcome will be wages. Chievo will not be able to afford Balotelli’s €6m a year salary.

Campedelli will have to ask the Reds whether they will pay part of Balotelli’s wage for the loan deal to go ahead, but it is far from certain that Liverpool will agree to this request. This then will leave the door open for other suitors who could afford to pay the wages in full with Dutch side Ajax still waiting in the wings if they reach the group phase of the Champions League.
