Liverpool were among seven clubs who enquired about the availability of Hoffenheim defender Niklas Sule this summer, according to SportBild.

Sule made his debut for Germany’s senior side in matches against Finland and Norway this month after starring at the Olympics as he claimed a silver medalĀ for the German side.

The 21 year old was not only interesting the Reds, reports SportBild. German sides Borussia Dortmund, Wolfsburg and Bayer Leverkusen were also pursuing the centre back whilst AC Milan, Roma and Napoli had also been keeping tabs on him.

The German however ruled out a move away from Hoffenheim earlier in the summer after declaring he still had a lot to learn before making a big money move to one of Europe’s elite clubs.

Interest is surely only going to increase next summer, and with the Reds signing a stop gap in 30 year old Ragnar Klavan, and the increasing uncertainty over Mamadou Sakho’s long term future at the club, they could be one of the club’s who may return to bid for Sule very soon.
