Liverpool have “sent scouts” to watch Hoffenheim defender Fabian Schar, according to the Daily Star. During the international break, Liverpool had representatives at both of Switzerland’s matches against Hungary and Andorra to see the Swiss international in action reports the newspaper.

Schar joined Hoffenheim at the start of the 2015/16 season and played 24 of the Bundesliga side’s 34 league games last season making him an ever-present in the side as German’s club bid to stay in the top flight.

The 24 year old was previously at Basel where he built his reputation playing against Europe’s best in the Champions League. His current club Hoffenheim would however be reluctant to see the centre back go, according to the Star, and while the Reds would be keen to sign him in the January transfer window, it is more likely that they would have to wait until the summer to land their man.

The arrival of another centre half would put Mamadou Sakho’s future at the club in serious doubt. The Frenchman has yet to play a single minute for the Reds this season.
