Andy Hunter in the Guardian is reporting that Liverpool are looking to make a January bid for FC Rostov forward Sardar Azmoun.

The Reds are concerned by the lack of forward options they may have in January when Sadio Mane heads to the African Cup of Nations and new Sporting Director Michael Edwards has earmarked Azmoun as a potential option for manager Jurgen Klopp.

The Iranian international has 15 goals in 20 appearances for his country but at club level, he has yet to become a prolific goalscorer, although at 21 there is room for him to improve.

A relative unknown to most in European football, Azmoun only really came to notice to some observers when he scored against Atletico Madrid in the 2-1 defeat in the Champions League last week. He has scored just 4 times in 19 games so far this season, and he scored just 9 in 24 for Rostov last season.

His move to Rostov in the summer of 2015 was controversial after his previous club Rubin Kazan disputed the claim that his previous loan agreement had an automatic buyout clause. Rubin lost their case at the Court of Arbitration for Sport allowing the move to go ahead.
