Liverpool goalkeeper Loris Karius has promised to repay manager Jurgen Klopp’s faith in him after being immediately reinstated to the first team line up after injury.

The 23 year old missed two months with a broken hand sustained in a preseason friendly against Chelsea in July, and Simon Mignolet was given the gloves to start the season as the club’s number one.

After doing little wrong however, Klopp replaced Mignolet in goal with Karius on his return from injury and declared the German his first choice. Karius told SID (via spox.com) that he wants to ensure his performances justify his selection:

“I am grateful that he immediately gave me confidence after my injury and made me the number 1. I will now pay back with performances.”

Karius also said that he is gradually getting used to the Premier League. Goalkeeping coach John Achterburg has been using Rugby pads to ensure the keeper acclimatises to the physicality of the English league, and the German believes he is getting there:

“It’s a change from the Bundesliga to the Premier League, but I’m getting better and better.”

Karius did not make the Germany senior squad for the World Cup qualifier against San Marino with Manuel Neuer, Bayer Leverkusen’s Bernd Leno and Barcelona’s Marc-Andre ter Stegen the three keepers chosen by Joachim Low.
