BBC Football pundit Garth Crooks believes Liverpool will have to win at least one trophy this season if they want to keep star player Philippe Coutinho at the club.

Former Tottenham player Crooks was discussing his choices for the Premier League team of the week in his BBC website column when he had this to say about Coutinho’s future at Anfield:

“October’s player of the month is playing so well at the moment it seems quite likely – after Liverpool’s performance against Watford – he will receive November’s award as well.”

“The only problem with all this attention is it is alerting the likes of Barcelona and Real Madrid to the Brazilian’s talents.”

“Liverpool are riding high at the moment largely because of Coutinho’s exploits, but should the Reds fail to win a trophy this season he may end up at a club that can.”

Coutinho has been linked with both Barcelona and Real Madrid in the Spanish media in recent days, while the French press have linked the Brazilian playmaker with a move to Paris Saint-Germain.

Real currently have a transfer ban in place which would make any move impossible unless their suspension is lifted by their appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport. Meanwhile Barcelona are not believed to be interested if Sky Sports expert Guillem Balague is to be believed.

PSG would probably be the most likely destination but the question remains whether the Brazilian would want to move away to play in the French league. Hopefully the rumoured new contract for the 24 year old could end such speculation.
