Juventus sporting director Fabio Paratici was being lined up to become Director of Football at Anfield after Jurgen Klopp’s appointment as Reds boss last October, according to calciomercato.com.

Paratici arrived at Juve from Sampdoria in 2010 to become sporting director, along with CEO Giuseppe Marotta and manager Luigi Del Neri, but before deciding to stay at the Serie A champions and renew his current contract, he was approached by Liverpool, the Italian website reports.

Jurgen Klopp was used to working under a sporting director while managing both Mainz and Borussa Dortmund in Germany. He had a close working relationship with Michael Zorc at Dortmund and it seems Fenway Sports Group were looking for potential options in the Director of Football role last season.

Technical Director Michael Edwards was announced as the Reds’ new sporting director last week as Klopp seeks to offload some of the workload he has had to take on in the more traditional English managerial role he has had up until this point.
