Sunderland are interested in signing Porto striker Moussa Marega, according to Abola. The Black Cats join a long list of English clubs scouting the Malian international with Liverpool, Tottenham, Watford, Crystal Palace and Stoke City all monitoring the forward.

Marega is currently on loan at Vitoria Guimaraes where he has scored 10 goals in nine appearances so far this season. The 25 year old could be seen by manager Jurgen Klopp as a suitable squad player in the absence of Sadio Mane, who will leave to play for Senegal in the African Cup of Nations in January.

Sunderland boss David Moyes is no doubt also looking for options to strengthen his forward line with the Premier League strugglers heavily reliant on veteran Jermain Defoe for goals.

Marega does have a substantial buyout clause of €40million, reports Abola, but as he has been loaned out by Porto after failing to impress in hi six months at the Estadio do Dragao at the end of last season following a January move from Maritimo, the Portuguese club will be seeking much less.
