As quoted by The Daily Mail, Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet has said that the Reds are determined to win the EFL Cup after progressing to the semi-finals on Tuesday.

The Belgian’s words came after Liverpool beat Leeds United at Anfield in the last eight 2-0 thanks to Divock Origi and young Ben Woodburn finding the net, with the latter becoming our youngest ever competitive scorer.

It was a promising evening in regards to the future of the club, then, and our number 2 wants 2017 to be even brighter with the prospect of an impressive ninth League Cup win in the reckoning.

It would increase our record number of wins in the competition after the last lifting of the trophy in 2012 and, citing last year’s final, it’s certainly something Mignolet and his team-mates want to do.

“Last year we went to the final. Unfortunately, we lost in the cruellest of ways so we’ve got something to put right,” he said.

“We still have to win the semis before we speak about Wembley or anything like that, but of course when you’re at Liverpool, with the history we’ve got, we want to win trophies and the squad is very hungry for silverware.”

The Reds lost on penalties to Manchester City in last year’s showpiece and, should they manage to win the competition this time around, it would mark Jurgen Klopp’s first trophy with the Reds.
