Joel Matip has been left out of the Cameroon squad for AFCON 2017, as reports The Daily Mail.

We’ve been waiting for this confirmation for some time and at last it appears to have come through meaning, once he is fit again, he will be straight back into contention for our side and not risking injury with his country.

Matip has impressed so far this season with his calm displays a real hit with us Reds and so, naturally, we were worried that he was going to leave us during this month for the competition.

He’s been injured of late, though, and now we can rest assured he’ll be recovering under the careful gaze of the Reds’ doctors.

The Reds are now only going to lose one player to AFCON this year with that being Sadio Mane. The winger could be away until February 5th and so Jurgen Klopp will need to have a contingency plan ready by now.

Happy with the news, Reds? Let us know below!
