Well, there we are, the Reds are out of the EFL Cup at the semi-final stage on what was a very frustrating night at Anfield.
Going into it we were trailing 1-0 to Southampton but despite a decent Anfield atmosphere we failed to find the break-through against a stubborn team.
The Saints’ game plan was very good, in all fairness, and they were always a threat on the break – something that eventually caught us out in the end.
As we surged forward towards the end of the game the men from the south coast hit us on the break and Shane Long duly hit home to kill the tie off in injury time.
As always, we learned things about the Reds from the game – whether we liked to or not, and so here are the three things that became apparent…
