We finished 2016 in style last night as we beat Manchester City 1-0 at Anfield to assert ourselves as Chelsea’s main title contenders.
Style, though, only applied to the fact that we managed to win the three points because the performance wasn’t what we’ve become accustomed to from the Reds.
Instead of our usual attacking fluency and high-pressing against one of our biggest rivals for the title we instead kept our shape more, stayed disciplined and ground out the three points in gritty fashion.
We’ve been waiting, oddly, for a performance like this to show we can still win when things aren’t always clicking and we’ve got it – a true sign of bonafide title contenders.
