Sometimes we get the feeling that the actual football season and all that comes with it is actually an inconvenience for those more interested in the transfer market.

We may be nowhere near summer, as having Storm Doris about will attest to, but yet the transfer rumour mill shows no sign of abating.

Indeed, as quoted by liverpooloffside, David Prutton has thrown fuel on the fire of one particular transfer story by saying that we have a head-start over the chasing pack for the signature of Virgil Van Dijk.

On the face of it, that seems pretty exciting with Van Dijk a very talented footballer who is currently injured until later on this season.

And, come the summer, he could be on the move with Merseyside a possible destination with the potential to follow in the footsteps of Saints players before him.

That’s something, then, that Prutton feels gives us the edge:

“Liverpool obviously have a good dialogue and a business relationship with Southampton, although I wouldn’t say that puts them at the front. But you’d think from a business point of view, it probably gives them a head start when it comes to building a rapport and business relationship.”

Has Prutton got a point, Reds? Let us know below!
