It’s been one of the underlying plots of our season this year but the dilemma of Emre Can doesn’t seem to be nearing a proper resolution just yet.
At the start of this campaign it looked as though the midfielder was at last coming of age – highlighting what he could do and, more importantly, on a regular basis.
He was scoring goals and providing energy and drive in midfield but since he, like many of his team-mates, has been on a journey taking him far away from such a level.
Indeed, Can, more than most, has struggled with a lack of confidence, too, but against Arsenal we did begin to see some signs of another rebirth.
We could, of course, be looking at another false dawn but with the performance against the Gunners in mind here’s two reasons why if Emre Can starts, it has to be as a holding midfielder…
