As quoted by the club’s official website, Joel Matip hasn’t ruled himself out from playing against Crystal Palace just yet – despite him being a serious doubt for the game as per Jurgen Klopp.

Indeed, it was revealed that the rangy defender could be out of the game alongside Ragnar Klavan and Lucas Leiva – leaving us short in terms of options for centre-back.

Joe Gomez, then, could come it to play against the Eagles but our summer signing Matip hasn’t given up hope just yet – even if it is still touch and go.

The Cameroonian said:

“I’m hoping, but as the coach said I’m still struggling to be available for Sunday. I’m still fighting to get back.

“It’s a muscle problem, a muscle issue. But I will do my best to be available for the coach and for the team.”

This isn’t the first time that Matip has been injured this season, of course, and whilst we hope he’s back for the weekend, we’re more concerned with the fact that he could be a long-running injury prone player.
