As quoted by Liverpool Offside, Southampton chairman Ralph Krueger has suggested that his club may not have to sell anyone this summer.

The Saints have often been one of the sides that we have bought players from in recent seasons but it seems as though that the club is now in a place where they do not need to get rid of their star players for any money.

Indeed, he said of Virgil Van Dijk in particular that a £50 or £60 million bid could potentially be turned down by the club.

Krueger said:

“Can we [reject an offer]? Yes.

“The big thing is here again I want to underline the strategy, less the detail…I’ll tell you again, we do not need to sell anybody.”

The Reds, then, might be in trouble in terms of signing the Dutch centre-half with it certainly appearing as though the defender is going to cost a fair amount of money anyway.
