Liverpool U23 manager Neil Critchley has said that Danny Ings’ substitution last night for his team was just a “precaution” – as per the club’s official website.

The former Burnley striker has not had a successful time of things with the Reds with injuries keeping him out for large swathes of the last two campaigns.

He has, however, been working his way back to fitness and these games with the U23’s should yield him more match fitness ahead of any return to the senior side.

He did, however, have to come off last night after seemingly picking up a knock but those worries have been put to bed by Critchley.

Certainly, we’re still hoping that Ings is going to be a good player for us with him certainly sharp and energetic going forwards and so let’s hope he can remain fit as the fixture list begins to get hectic at this time of year.
