As quoted by the club’s official website, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has revealed that Nathaniel Clyne is not close to returning to action with him still suffering from injury.

Clyne suffered a back injury in pre-season and has not played for the club since with the likes of Trent Alexander-Arnold and Joe Gomez filling in for him so far.

Indeed, TAA in particular has impressed and so Clyne will have to prove himself once he is back fit though we would think that he’ll get back into the side soon enough.

In the meantime, though, the recovery is still going on and Klopp has revealed the latest on the situation:

“Nathaniel is working hard on his rehab and we have kept a close eye on his progress, but the reality is we are looking at some time still before he is back and available for selection. I am told it will be longer than just a couple of weeks, so we will continue to monitor and assess.

“It is pretty certain he’ll not be available for the majority of the Champions League group matches. If we are fortunate enough to still be in UEFA competition in the New Year he could be added to the squad then.”

Clyne really is out for some time, then, and we’re hoping that if he does play in a Champions League game this season it’ll mean we’ve made it into the knockout stages next year.
