According to ESPNFC – Liverpool are eyeing up a move for West Brom’s on-loan defender Ahmed Hegazi with Leicester City also interested.

The Reds ended up high and dry in the summer in terms of a central defender as we failed to get in Virgil van Dijk and then failed to bring in a back-up plan.

Indeed, that lack of contingency has cost us dear but it appears as though we’re now looking at such a move with Hegazi potentially available for a move from his parent club Al Ahly.

However, whilst we think Hegazi is a decent player, we’re highly doubtful that he is the top class defender we need to really improve.

For sure, he wouldn’t get into any of the other top six sides’ teams at the moment and we’d seriously question the transfer strategy behind this move.

In our eyes, we’d give Joe Gomez preference over Hegazi, look to bring in van Dijk and then, failing that, bring in a cheaper option but with more ability than the West Brom-based star.

Thoughts, Reds? Let us know below!
