Speaking at an event held by Virgin Media, Southampton manager Manuel Pellegrino has said that he does not think that Virgil van Dijk will struggle this weekend.

The Dutch defender was heavily linked with the Reds and it looked as though we were going to get him in the summer before we seemed to throw it away at the last moment.

It’s likely we’ll still have an interest in him, though, and he makes the trip to Anfield this weekend with his Southampton side – something that provides an interesting sub-plot.

For Pellegrino, though, the summer’s antics won’t be a problem.

As quoted by The Mirror, he said:

“I don’t think it will be difficult because Virgil knows he is focused 100 per cent on our team and is training well. He wants to improve his performances because obviously he was injured in March and then he didn’t play any games.”

Certainly, van Dijk will look to put on a showing at Anfield this weekend so let’s hope he has an off-day as we try to get three points.
