According to the Independent, via Sports Mole, Liverpool will not overpay for Virgil van Dijk and will not meet the Saints’ £70m asking price.

The Reds have been linked with the defender for some time and we all know what happened in the summer with the potential signing of him.

He remained at the club, though, but was left out of the side against Chelsea this weekend just gone and that has fuelled fresh rumours about his future.

Could Liverpool go for him in the next window, then?

Well, it’s hard to say for sure but it seems as though the Reds won’t pay whatever the cost.

Certainly, it’s good that we’ve got some kind of limit on how we’ll spend but we know how van Dijk could change our fortunes and so we’d say even £70m would be worthwhile.

Let’s see what happens.
