Liverpool have enjoyed a successful week, beating Manchester City in the first-leg of the Champions League quarter-finals, before holding Merseyside rivals Everton to a goalless draw in the Premier League.

Jurgen Klopp knows his side have plenty of work to do in the summer though if they’re to topple the Citizens from their perch at the top of the league and one of the biggest tasks comes in midfield, where a replacement for Emre Can needs to be found.

The German international is edging ever closer to the expiration of his contract at Anfield, with there being no signs of an extension, and Italian giants Juventus have long been named as the favourites to land his services.

However, the Serie A title chasers are said to be expecting a ‘soap opera’ in the market, although Juve chief Giuseppe Marotta has confirmed his intentions to conclude a deal within the next ten days.

Quoted by The Sunhe said:

“I am asking myself what the situation is.  We want the soap opera to conclude in around ten days. The player is right to evaluate all opportunities, so we’ll wait and see what he wants to do.”

Juventus have been free to agree a pre-contract with Can since the turn of the year but are yet to reach an agreement.
