RB Leipzig are not interested in signing Schalke midfielder Max Meyer, according to DerWestern.de.

The German international has been linked with a move to Liverpool and Arsenal with his contract expiring at the end of the season, but BILD had reported that both Leipzig and Hoffenheim had entered the battle to sign the 22 year old.

However, it seems that Die Bullen are not looking to put a deal on the table for the central midfield player. Deutsche Presse-Agentur report that Meyer’s likely destination is abroad.

Last weekend, Schalke sporting director Christian Heidel confirmed that the German is almost certain to leave the Veltins-Arena after negotiations between the club and the midfielder broke down:

“At the moment we can and must expect that Max leaves the club in the summer. Everything suggests that. There is no offer from us and no wish from Max to have a conversation again.”

Meyer has been utilised in an unfamiliar defensive midfield role by manager Domenico Tedesco this campaign, but the change in position has paid off with the player having played an important part in his side’s rise to second in the table.

Due to the German international’s age, the Bundesliga side would be due compensation if he leaves on a Bosman free transfer this summer, although it is unlikely to put off interested teams.
