The form of Liverpool ace Mohamed Salah has caught plenty of attention across Europe this season and the Egypt international took his tally to 43 goals this season with a brace against Roma last night.

Another starring display against his former employers has increased the campaign for the PFA Player of the Year’s performances to be acknowledged on a global scale later this year when the Ballon D’Or shortlist emerges.

Salah is tipped to be in the running alongside the likes of Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo and Barcelona’s Lionel Messi but his chances could hinge on the performances of Salah and his counterparts at this summer’s World Cup.

Arsenal legend Ian Wright has tipped Salah to be in with a chance though, telling Sky Sports’ The Debate:

“Yes he’s in the [Ballon d’Or] conversation, of course he is. With the World Cup coming up you’d like to hope that he can carry this form into that tournament. Obviously it’s somewhat dependant on what Liverpool do in this Champions League.”

“If they do go forth and win it, then you have to say he’s in with a shout. When you look at Cristiano Ronaldo, he’s saved much of his best work for the Champions League.”

“He’s [Ronaldo] won the Ballon d’Or a couple of times, and not just for those reasons. But if Mo Salah keeps on doing what he’s doing he’s not only in the conversation, he’s got a very good chance of winning it.”
