Former Liverpool midfielder Dietmar Hamann tore into goalkeeper Loris Karius and shared he held little sympathy for him after the Champions League final.

The retired midfielder, who played 191 times for the Reds, shared that even though the 24-year-old shot-stopper was tearful for the mistakes he made against Real Madrid his ego meant that he didn’t warrant instant forgiveness from fans.

Hamann labelled Karius’ post-match tears as an “unnecessary” action as he just tried to get fans to forgive him for his blunders during the game.

“Liverpool fans forgive their stars almost everything,” said Hamann in an interview with German publication Bild.

“With one exception: Your ego does not match the performance shown.

“Karius drives through Liverpool with a personalized license plate ‘LK1′, making waves in the city with his performances. Cristiano Ronaldo can afford such a celebrity in Madrid, who has won the Champions League five times. Karius has not achieved anything in his career. ”

“He is lucky that he got the chance at with his transfer from Mainz. He should be more humble and humble.

“My sympathy with Karius is limited, Karius’ publicly inflicted suffering after the final whistle was just as unnecessary as the tearful request for absolution.”

OPINION

Hamann is rather harsh with his opinion of Karius as the 24-year-old goalkeeper was clearly just overcome with emotion after feeling like he had failed everyone in the Champions League final. While the shot-stopper will no doubt hope the Anfield faithful one day forgive him for his part in them losing against Real Madrid, his tears weren’t unnecessary. Also for the former Reds midfielder to imply a footballer is egotistical because they have a fancy personalise number plate means he has a long list of players he needs to dish out brutal criticism of. Karius is young and enjoying his fortune that he earns playing football but just because he’s flash when it comes to his license plate doesn’t mean he deserves to be hung out to dry for high-profile mistakes. The first team player, who played 33 times in the recently concluded campaign, was obviously aiming to not make such costly errors in an important game and doesn’t need someone else to harshly criticism him especially when they’re ripping him apart due to deciding to cry.
