Liverpool to intensify Fekir pursuit – report

|

Lyon playmaker Nabir Fekir has told club president Jean-Michel Aulas  he wants to join Liverpool, according to the Mirror.

The newspaper claim the £50million-rated France international has made it clear he is keen to push through a move to the Premier League giants this summer.

The Mirror report that Liverpool will now intensify efforts to land him and sporting director Michael Edwards is set to hold formal talks with his Lyon counterparts “in the next week”.

OPINION

Fekir’s desire to move to Liverpool is not only a clear signal of intent from the player, but also a massive development, as it puts pressure on Lyon to sell him. The French club will be aware how much discord there would be in the dressing room next season if Fekir is not granted his dream move. That does not mean Lyon should or will cave in, and sell Fekir easily or below his market value. But players who down tools are rarely of long-term value, and refusing to green light his exit would only create major problems. The hurdles to Liverpool sealing what would be a brilliant signing are quickly being move out of the way. With central midfielder Fabinho already on board, the Merseyside giants are very active as they look to seal a deal for Fekir before he represents France at the World Cup starting on 14 June. It would represent a huge statement of intent if Fabinho and Fekir are all signed up before that point, and in readiness for pre-season.
