Emre Can’s exit from Liverpool could lead to midfielder Sami Khedira arriving at Anfield in the summer, according to The Sun.

The newspaper claim that Can looks set to leave Jurgen Klopp’s side at the end of the season, with Khedira’s current club Juventus being huge admirers of the 24-year-old Reds midfielder.

The Sun report that the Italian giants have been in negotiations with Can for months, with no deal agreed as of yet, but during talks the Reds have been alerted to the availability of Khedira.

The 31-year-old Juventus midfielder admitted in a recent interview with Sport Bild that he would one day like to win the Premier League title.

It is believed that Khedira, who won the World Cup in 2014, would be keen to work with compatriot Jurgen Klopp at Anfield and is seen as a suitable replacement for Can.

Good move for Liverpool?

Yes.

Can will leave a hole in the Reds’ midfield when he departs, which is likely as his contact expires at the end of the season, and Khedira will easily replace him.

The 31-year-old would bring a winning mentality to Anfield as he has lifted countless trophies over the course of his career, including winning three league championship across his time at Real Madrid and Juventus.

Aside from Khedira being a serial winner, the central midfielder has impressed in the 29 appearance he has made for Juventus this season, where he has scored nine goals.

Likely to happen?

Khedira clearly has ambitions to play in England’s top-flight and with him being 31-year-old, he has to make a move sooner rather than later.

So with that in mind and the fact he is keen on Klopp, as he wants to work with him, Liverpool is a realistic destination for Khedira.

The veteran midfielder’s Juventus contract expires in 2019, so it’s very likely the Italian giants will sell him in the summer, in order to get a fee for him.

It’s also undeniable at this point, as his contract still hasn’t been renewed, that Klopp will need to sign a replacement for Can as the 25-year-old is extremely unlikely to pull on a Reds’ jersey next season.

Given Khedira’s reputation, Reds supporters will no doubt welcome the 31-year-old with open arms.
