Liverpool fans on social media dismissed the idea that welcoming goalkeeper Pepe Reina back to Anfield was a good move.

The Daily Mirror reported on Monday that the Reds were interested in signing the 35-year-old in the summer, in order for him to be back-up to Loris Karius at the club.

The newspaper claimed that the Reds hierarchy are keen on Reina as he could help guide the gaffe-prone Karius improve, but as of yet no bid has been made.

Reina is currently at Napoli, with his current deal set to expire at the end of the current season, and has made 45 appearances for the Italian club this season.

The veteran keeper has managed to keep 21 clean sheets in his outings, while only conceding 42 goals in the process.

Despite being the first-choice at Napoli, Reds fans weren’t keen for a trip down memory lane and shared their displeasure over potentially signing Reina on Twitter.

One supporter tweeted that the goalkeeper was getting to be past his best when he left Anfield in 2014, and the club shouldn’t let its heart rule its head.

While another fan stated on Twitter that they would rather an alternative strategy where the Reds recruited a goalkeeper who wasn’t prone to making mistakes.

It is believed that Jurgen Klopp’s first choice when searching the market for a new goalkeeper is AS Roma’s Alisson, however the club fear he will cost too much.

Reina was a favourite of the Anfield faithful, during his nine-year spell at the club, and made 395 appearances for the club.
