Liverpool goalkeeper Loris Karius has broken his silence after two calamitous errors saw the Reds fall short in the Champions League final, and fans have reacted in support of the shot stopper.
Karius’ first error saw Real Madrid take the lead when the German inexplicably threw a pass against striker Karim Benzema with the ball rolling into the corner.
Liverpool managed a quick reply through Sadio Mane, with Dejan Lovren rising well to head on a corner to the onrushing Senegalese who made no mistake with his sliding finish.
The Reds however found themselves behind again, this time through no fault of Karius but through the brilliance of Gareth Bale, who leapt to strike a stunning bicycle kick past the Liverpool stopper.
Karius’ second error then put the game beyond any doubt when he only managed to parry Bale’s 30-yard effort into his own net, sealing a 3-1 loss for Jurgen Klopp’s men.
The 24-year-old German stopper was inconsolable at full-time and begged forgiveness from the travelling Liverpool fans, with reports suggesting that he has been subjected to death threats since the match.
Karius has now broken his silence on the game with a Twitter post in which he said he had not slept and was “infinitely sorry” to the club for his errors.
Haven’t really slept until now… the scenes are still running through my head again and again… I'm infinitely sorry to my teammates, for you fans, and for all the staff. I know that I messed it up with the two mistakes and let you all down… pic.twitter.com/w9GixPiQDC

It's okay, man. Really. Think about all the crucial saves you made for us on the night, we might have lost by more had you not been there when it mattered.
