Liverpool step up Fekir chase

|

Liverpool are hopeful they can push through the signing of Nabil Fekir from Lyon after making significant progress in the last 24 hours over a deal, according to the Telegraph.

The newspaper claim that that sporting director Michael Edwards and Fenway Sports Group president Mike Gordon have “advanced” planning for next season, with playmaker Fekir top of their target list.

The Telegraph report that the club have made a major breakthrough in their bid to land Fekir for a fee of around £60million and “the club are hopeful a deal can be done”.

OPINION

Surely it would be asking too much for Liverpool to secure an historic Champions League crown and then follow up by finalising a deal for brilliant Frenchman Fekir? There has been a lot of noise around the Merseysiders’ pursuit of the playmaker – seen as the ideal replacement for January departee Philippe Coutinho – in the last week. Reports from France have stated a deal is in the offing, and the Merseyside media have now followed suit after appearing to have been given a simultaneous steer by Liverpool’s communications department. Fekir has just come off a brilliant season for Lyon, who he joined aged 12, and has catapulted himself into the France World Cup squad and is on course to start the tournament despite intense competition for the attacking positions in the side. His goalscoring record from an attacking midfield role is impressive – 23 goals in 2017-18 – and he also creates plenty for his teammates. With touch, vision and the ability to open up well organised defences, Fekir is just the player Liverpool need to progress to the next level.
