Despite the attacking power and prowess on display at Anfield this season, Liverpool will need to bring in some reinforcements in forward areas this summer.

The club are still yet to replace Philippe Coutinho, who departed for Barcelona for £142million in January, and that will be a top priority for Jurgen Klopp in the coming weeks.

The right additions this summer will take this Liverpool attack to the next level, and transform this team into real contenders for the Premier League title next season.

According to The Sun, rivals Manchester United are prepared to splash out £79million on Bayern Munich speed demon Douglas Costa this summer.

The newspaper report that Juventus, where Costa spent the season on loan, have an option to buy the Brazilian for £33million, but have not confirmed they will take this up yet.

That has left United in a position to strike, with Juventus possibly prioritising reinforcements in other areas, and the Red Devils are willing to meet Bayern’s asking price of £79million.

However, if Costa does end up becoming available for other clubs this summer, then Liverpool must move for the 27-year-old in the coming weeks.

The jet-heeled dazzler would be a hugely exciting addition to the Reds attack, which is already one of Europe’s most potent goalscoring forces.

Costa’s lightning pace would pose major problems for all Premier League defences, but it is his final ball that is most impressive, with the winger registering 14 assists in all competitions in 2017/18.

Bringing in someone like Costa would open up endless possibilities for other players such as international teammate Roberto Firmino, who has had to do much of the providing this season.

It would also mean that Mo Salah could be transformed into an even more dangerous prospect, with the Egyptian allowed to roam freely after Costa’s placement on the right-wing.

It is a move which makes so much sense for the Reds, and with some of the Coutinho money left lying around, it is one that is highly affordable as well.
