OPINION

Dejan Lovren will be cut down to size in the Champions League final courtesy of Cristiano Ronaldo as the Liverpool defender couldn’t help but inadvertently make inflammatory remarks.

The 6ft 2in tall enforcer publicly claimed that he was ready to deal with the Real Madrid winger when the two face each other in the Champions League final.

“We will stop him together,” said Lovren in the press conference ahead of the Champions League final on Monday, as quoted by the Liverpool Echo.

“In some parts of the game it will be one against one but it is a challenge that I will be ready for, I have been working so hard and I am ready for everything.”

Lovren’s comments are remarkably harmless, but when you consider he’s directly telling Ronaldo that he is ready to handle whatever the winger throws at him, that’s just going to fire the Real Madrid star up.

The 33-year-old has already scored 15 goals in 12 Champions League appearances and will have no trouble outplaying Lovren to the point where the defender is at a complete loss.

Ronaldo already had that ability in his locker but after publicly being challenged by Lovren’s claim, he is going to go out of his way to ensure the Reds defender regrets his inflammatory remarks, whether he meant them or not.

Lovren has already made blunders this season against lesser opposition, so should have just quietly addressed the Ronaldo challenge and kept his confidence to himself.

The 28-year-old made a mistake during the Reds’ 5-2 victory over AS Roma in the Champions League and that was without a world-class, one of a kind talent like Ronaldo forcing him to panic.

Therefore the giant 6ft 2in tall Reds defender is set to be cut down to size in the Champions League final thanks to his own remarks no doubt inspiring Ronaldo to teach him a lesson.

Hopefully the Reds find a way to use their potent attack to make Lovren’s no doubt upcoming terrible night something that won’t affect them lifting the trophy.
