Liverpool are interested in signing Barcelona attacker Ousmane Dembele this summer, according to ES Sport.

The Spanish outlet claim the Reds manager Jurgen Klopp is working on a deal to land the France international and has “already drilled’ Dembele’s camp.

ES Sport report Barcelona are willing to sell Dembele if they seal the signing of Antoine Griezmann from Atletico Madrid this summer but Liverpool would have to match the £136million fee they paid Borussia Dortmund for him last summer.

OPINION

As transfer fees went crazy in the final weeks of last summer no deal raised more eyebrows than the astonishing sum Barcelona paid for Dembele after offloading Neymar. At least, the Brazilian was and is a world beater who can walk into any team in the world, and left with a CV littered with goals, matchwinners and sparkling performances. It was puzzling at the time, and even more so subsequently, that Barca paid Dortmund what the BBC reported was an initial £96million rising to a potential £135.5million. Dembele is a brilliant young talent with the ability to lift fans off their seats, but he’s no better than, and probably not as good as, Liverpool’s brilliant front three of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane. He would be an exciting addition to the Anfield attack, and perhaps Klopp can sense a bargain deal, but there is no chance of the Liverpool top brass paying half the quoted valuation of the 21-year-old Frenchman.
