Liverpool have continued reshuffling their backroom staff as academy coach Mike Garrity has left the club, according to the Liverpool Echo.

The local newspaper state that Reds won’t replace the 38-year-old Garrity, who was the U-23’s assistant boss, as they aim to streamline their academy and axe the position.

Liverpool Echo report that the Reds are close to filling a number of positions after Steven Gerrard left his role in the academy taking several personnel with him when he jumped to Rangers.

It is believed that the Reds will have Gerrard’s successor as under-18s boss in place for the start of pre-season which is mere weeks away.

OPINION

The Reds have been busy at work making major changing behind the scenes that will benefit the club in the long run. It seems after Gerrard took Michael Beale, Tom Culshaw and Jordan Milsom with him to Ibrox, the club used it as an opportunity to change the academy set-up. The only reason stated for the mass changes in the academy’s set-up in this report is that the Reds are aiming to streamline the process.  It’s hard to work out what they exactly mean in terms of how it will positively affect the Reds developing young talent. The position of assistant manager was surely an important one and was another set of eyes nurturing young talent on its way through to first-team. Yet the Reds have clearly decided to give Garrity his marching orders as he was contracted to stay until 2020 (Transfermarkt). However on a more positive note the Reds have clearly found someone to replace Gerrard with at the club as they’re expected to have a successor in place by pre-season. Pre-season is mere weeks away so an appointment is close.
