Liverpool hold serious interest in a move for PSV sensation Steven Bergwijn after extensively scouting the 20-year-old since January, according to De Telegraaf.

The Dutch newspaper report, as translated by Sport Witness, that Liverpool are one of three Premier League clubs lining up a swoop for Bergwijn, with Arsenal and Tottenham being the others involved.

De Telegraaf claim that instead of sending a scout to run the rule over the winger during PSV’s big games, the Reds have in fact sent someone to watch him play in the vast majority of games since the winter break.

Good move for Liverpool?

Yes.

Bergwijn has emerged as one of the Netherlands’ most exciting young players in the last season or so, with the young winger scoring eight goals and laying on 11 assists in all competitions this season.

The 20-year-old looks to be a real prospect, and if Liverpool were to snap him up he could well go on to become a star at Anfield in a few years.

One issue for Bergwijn would be the extra physicality of the Premier League, but he should bulk up with age and will learn how to contribute properly on defence soon as well.

Likely to happen?

While Liverpool do look to have put themselves in a good position for Bergwijn, the likeliest outcome this summer will be him staying in the Eredivisie for one more season.

The 20-year-old looks in no rush to leave PSV, and it would probably be the best move for his development to remain at the club for at least one more campaign.
