Manchester City have had a bid rejected for Napoli midfielder Jorginho – and Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to hail Michael Edwards for sealing the signing of Fabinho earlier this week.
The Merseyside giants’ sporting director spearheaded Liverpool’s under-the-radar pursuit of the Brazil international, which was sealed in a reported deal totalling £43million on Monday.
Now Napoli president De Laurentiis has told the Italian media that he has snubbed a formal offer of £43.7million for Fabinho’s fellow midfield anchorman Jorginho.
The Premier League champions were hopeful of making the midfielder their first summer signing once Italy had played Holland in a friendly on Monday as Jorginho will not be playing in the World Cup this summer.
But in an interview with Corriere dello Sport, De Laurentiis, renowned as a tough owner to deal with, insisted the Manchester club’s bid was dismissed out of hand.
‘Jorginho? I have refused an offer from Man City worth €45m (£39m) plus €5m (£4.3m) in bonuses,’ Di Laurentiis said.
The 26-year-old played a key part in Napoli’s title challenge this season, though ultimately the Neopolitan side fell short of Juventus.
Liverpool supporters are delighted that City have fallen short in their pursuit, and have praised their own club for working so quickly to seal an early summer deal for Fabinho.

Could’ve been Accrington Stanley getting the bid rejected as far as we’re concerned. We’ve said it because we were originally after Jorginho.
You’re the one commenting on a LFC page though Luke…
