Liverpool fans have delivered mixed verdicts on Twitter after a report from a reputable outlet claimed the club are set to confirm the signing of Xherdan Shaqiri after the World Cup.
The Independent claim the Stoke City attacker’s move to Anfield is set to be announced in the immediate wake of the tournament, which ends on 15 July.
Liverpool fans reacted with a mixture of delight and scepticism to the seemingly imminent arrival of Shaqiri.

Great squad player though. Needed some depth on the wings. Can not always rely on the Egyptian.

COMMENTARY
There appears to be a social media softening of attitude from Liverpool fans to the potential signing of Shaqiri. It did not go down too well at all with the majority a few weeks back when reports emanated that the Merseyside giants were in pole position to land the Switzerland international. But some bright displays for his country at the World Cup, including a brilliantly-taken late winner against Serbia, has won over a few fans who are now recognising what a fine player the 26-year-old is. Given the reported £13million release clause in his Stoke contract and the fact he is proven in the Premier League, Shaqiri is also a relative bargain. Liverpool were short of quality attacking cover last season, and the addition of the muscular Swiss would go some way to alleviating that.
